The planning proposal is inserted in the social-technical system “ICT for innovation in the drawing of sustainable Products and Services of high knowledge content”, one of the three components of the Ecosystem of High-Tech innovative entrepreneurship that Dhitech District aims at facilitating and planning development in the Puglia Region. In particular, the project is developed in the area of “Internet-Based services engineering”, committed to the research of scientific analysis methods for planning, production and supply of innovative services, and places itself in the emerging Science of Services. In this area, the research project aims at the conception and finalisation of a strategic, organisational and technological “future internet driven” intervention, aimed at innovation in services for the “sustainable knowledge society”. The research project reference market is represented by “Knowledge Intensive Services” (KIS), a category up to grade in the innovative tertiary sector, and transversal to the economic sectors, to which a cornerstone role is ascribed in the restructuring process that will follow the global economic crisis, thanks to its positive impact on productivity and innovation in the other economic sectors. The project aims to create a new culture of services in the regional territory, stating a discontinuity in the traditional development models of the territory, and leading the transition of the Puglia Region towards the paradigm of the so-called ‘smart territory’, understood as a multiplayer system able to maximise, through the arrangement of adequate technological and digital infrastructure, the innovative capability and management of the assets of knowledge of the participating actors. In order to reach this goal, the project foresees the fulfilment of a series of results classifiable as process innovations, new formulations and innovative products. In particular, the project suggests radical innovation in the processes of conception, planning, fulfilment and supply, that ascribes to the final addressee of the services a central role that anticipates his involvement. Moreover, for the fulfilment of this innovation, the implementation of a methodology created in the labs of M.I.T. USA is required, borrowed from the European countries, characterised as user-driven innovation and codified as a “Living-Lab”. The new formulations concern the definition of a set of methodologies and technologies for the Engineering of Services, produced by a next generation service model, designed to fulfil the requirements of inclusion, participation and personalisation. The innovative products that the project intends to create consist of pervasive technological infrastructure, conceived in order to a. act as the nervous system of the ‘smart territory’, decline in a holistic way the concept of Future Internet, supply instruments and deployment environments that would support the Service Innovation; b. endow human capital qualified in the profile of “Innovator and Entrepreneur Engineer”, equipped with capabilities and aptitudes suitable for taking the opportunities offered by the new technologies in new business models, in order to create economic and social value (technological Entrepreneurship); c. a start-up specialised in the Engineering of Services, conceived in line with the challenge of the European Commission to create, in Europe, “service innovation leaders”, structured as environments able to promote the development of “technology-based” innovative services. The contextualisation in the Puglia region of the proposed new service model will affect, as the first step of a structural reform that in our ambitious objective aims at being very wide, the new generation services of the Public Administration of Integrated tourism Training project Competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global context requires a development strategy, based on knowledge and innovation in services, capable of encouraging sustainable, responsible and inclusive development of the territory and allowing the transition towards a form of “smart territory”. This important challenge requires the availability of human capital with new characteristics and skills with respect to traditional professional models. This training project intends to create a strongly innovative and interdisciplinary path of learning which aspires to the guiding principles of the National Science Foundation and the National Academy of Engineering Education, to create holistic approaches which incorporate socio-cultural and entrepreneurial dimensions in the traditional technical and economic specialisations of engineering. The Innovator/Entrepreneur Engineer, as a professional figure, the objective of this project, will be capable of managing the innovation process in knowledge intensive services, enabling the development of a smart territory. The Innovator Engineer represents a professional figure of high “sustainable employability” capable of operating in the business context as a manager of change, but also of assuming the role of high tech entrepreneur, thus contributing to the transition of the Convergence Regions towards development models based on knowledge. The project Activating Puglia@Service: “Internet-based services engineering for the structural development of a ‘smart’ territory" intends to create this new archetype of human capital through the development of interdisciplinary skills regarding the management of services, innovative approaches to collaboration and innovation, new business models for companies and institutions, and the role of new technologies in the design, creation and management of the innovation of internet-based services. The project, aimed at 15 young graduates in scientific-technological areas, will adopt the pedagogical paradigm of action learning contextualised within the research project Puglia@Service, with which this correlates. The training pathway will be based, therefore, on interactive, collaborative, project/problem based learning in which experimentation, simulation, role play and case study analysis are used as facilitators of learning. The international character of the profile is consolidated by the use of the English language in all phases of the course. To reach the objectives of this project, the DHITECH Technological District intends to evaluate:- the obligatory structure, the Public-Private Laboratory X-Net.Lab Innovative Cultural Business Centre of the University of Salento, created in the Euro-Mediterranean Incubator; the use of said laboratory, linked to a wide band network with the laboratories of industrial partners involved in the project, will enable interaction between young trainees and the industrial context of reference;- the contributions of prestigious Italian and foreign universities, such as Bocconi University of Milan, the University of Palermo, the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the London School of Economics, the Engineering School of Milan, Imperial College London, with which the obligatory structure has consolidated relationships and collaboration;- the contribution of the T6 Society which will provide its contribution in the field of technology supporting innovation in services in particular applicative contexts;- the research laboratories of the public and private partners of the District and the partners of the project Puglia@Service: Internet-based services engineering for the structural development of a ‘smart’ territory, which represents the context in which the phases of juxtaposition to the research will be carried out.
