Project Profile

The integrated laboratory of social science technologies "New Science", at the University Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples, has the objective of integrating technological development and the world of human knowledge. The intent is to increase the capacity of investigation and research in social sciences, their usability in the planning of new technological solutions, as well as the market application of the results of the research.

The laboratory operates in 6 areas (living labs) which concern:

1. Social simulation centred in topics of the visualisation of information, modelling and social simulation;
2. Planning of physical and virtual games and educational support;
3. Development of communicative content usable on fixed and mobile devices such as tablet which allow new experiences of interaction and use;
4. Evaluation of artistic and cultural goods with advanced diagnostic, cataloguing and restoration techniques;
5. Introduction of new qualitative and quantitative social research methodologies;
6. Creation of the digital humanist figure, capable of interacting actively with figures and technical skills at the forefront of innovation.

The laboratory, furthermore, is in the course of implementing a programme of international relationships oriented towards research projects, an incubation space for innovative spin-offs, a centre for audiovisual and multimedia production and an environment to propose new modes of presentation and interaction with data. In this phase, the laboratory is making available the acquisition and preparation of the tools necessary for the realisation of the predicted objectives. Furthermore, it is working to configure the services and skills necessary to consolidate its competitiveness in the world of research and innovation, seeking to introduce the point of view of the humanities disciplines. It is collecting important confirmation on the research project front, within the boundaries of its activities, and sourcing some innovative entrepreneurial initiatives.
