Project Profile

Smartour is a territorial marketing service aimed at increasing local and international tourism in the city of Salerno, using the cultural and scenic potential of the city.

Smartour aims to put at the service of the city an interactive and free tourist guide, in the form of a smartphone App, which allows the offers of actors in the tourist chain of the city to meet citizens, pedestrians and tourists, in a virtual social environment, in which to discover Points of Interest, plan tours based on preferences, see promotions, comment and network.

The aim of the project is to join the cognitive aspect of tourist areas with the experiential aspect of the opinions of the community, through to the promotion of production activity through the use of more innovative information and communication technologies, which allow simple use of the tourist and cultural attractions of a city. This interactive guide will be consultable even offline and tied to one or more social network platform(s).

Regarding the results obtained, a prototype has been developed of the Android version of the tourist guide, which allows consultation of the most important places in the city and reading of reviews. It is also possible to consult tourist itineraries and create personal ones. The next objective is to implement an artificial intelligence motor which creates personalised tourist itineraries and allows users to identify even more easily the places and activities that are most interesting in the city.

The service was also designed for use from fixed positions (fixed computers and laptops) and tablets; and soon the web version of the platform will be released. Furthermore, the prototype of the app for Apple devices with iOS 7 and 8 operating systems is in the development phase.
