REPAIR: Medicina rigenerativa ed ingegneria tissutale: Approcci innovativi per la riparazione di tessuti danneggiati.

Description The purpose of this project is to support industrial research in accordance with the objectives of the Programma Operativo Nazionale (PON) 2007-2013 "Ricerca e Competitività". This overall objective will be achieved throughout the development of new technologies and services in Companies of the Campania and Puglia Regions and via the positioning in that same regions of Companies having know-how in the field of health and biotecnologies. It is predicted also the establishment of spin-off companies derived from the technologies developed during the project. These spin-offs will be of high value for their excellent potential to grow and to attract young researchers who could translate their expertise and know-how acquired before and during the project, into added value for the South of Italy. With the help of participating Research Organizations, the project proposes to establish highly innovative strategies and procedures for the preparation, quality control and production of cellular and a-cellular systems suitable for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering-based therapy. Putting this project in "constellation" with other projects, together constituting a "supply-chain" of regenerative medecine and tissue engineering, represents an added value that characterizes this initiative. The target market of this project is identified in the health business and related biotechnology enterprises. The proposed activities aim to: ¿ develop strategies for competitive re-positioning of companies involved; ¿ establish new biotech companies in the Campania Region; ¿ develop specialized spin-offs. In accordance with the directives of Art. 4 of this Call, this project proposes the formation of an inter-regional and inter-sectorial "constellation" with other projects, in particular: ¿ NANODERMA, which proposes to develop new materials and processes for regeneration and functional recovery of the derma following lesions or damage due to disease or trauma. ¿ DIATEME, which proposes the development of high-tech devices for drug delivery. ¿ SPEEDERS, which proposes innovative approaches to vaccine and anti-inflammatory drug delivery. ¿ STERIL 03, which proposes to generate a prototipe system to produce strile water necessary for medical and pharmaceutical purpose This constellation is an inter-regional and multidisciplinary chain for the: ¿ innovation of industrial processes; ¿ creation of new productive entities; ¿ generation of innovative services related to regenerative medecine in the "Convergence Regions". The "supply chain" generated by the Constellation will have impacts not only on the business world but will also provide health related services that are not currently available in Campania or Puglia. Furthermore, it needs o be enmphasized that the Constellation is critical for the development of an strategy of multi-regional interaction between the Technological Districts of Campania and Puglia, which are investing a lot into biotechnology and human health. For example, there is a recent decision of San Raffaele Hospital of Milan, a contributor in this project, to open a branch in Puglia. Another example is the decision to increase the capital of the Pugliese High-Tech District (DHITECH, a partner in this project) in order to allow the participation of the San Raffaele Hospital and of the Biotech BEL (also a partner of this project).
