RotoLIon - sistema di sostituzione rapida di batterie di veicoli elettrici/ibridi a mezzo stazione eco-sostenibile

Code PON01_01160
Field/s Energy
Description The conferences on reducing emissions have found in mobility the main area of intervention to cope with the problems caused by the recent energy crisis. The growing levels of traffic are actually causing the increase in the levels of the emissions, even though exhaust gas regulations are becoming more rigorous (Euro 5, and unconfirmed reports of Euro 6) and the incentives for renewing the fleet of cars. Finally, for the final user, there are also the inconveniences related to the fluctuation of fuel prices. The electric and hybrid vehicles, although not representing the most innovative technology, remain the most promising ones from an environmental point of view, due to the low levels of emissions. In the case of purely electric vehicles, in addition to the low costs per mile, there is also the advantage of a relatively simple structure consisting of an electric motor, a speed control system, an energy consumption control system and a battery pack. However, it is the battery pack to be an obstacle to the development of the market of electric vehicles. Indeed, in addition to high costs, the batteries have a charging time greatly exceeding that needed to refuel vehicles with internal combustion engines. The solution to these problems, proposed by various parties, is the construction of vehicles with the possibility of replacing the battery pack for charging. In this way the costs of the batteries are directly paid by the vehicle manufacturer. The research project called RotoLIon has the main objective of creating a system to quickly and reliably replace the battery pack of an electric vehicle with one equivalent and full. The system operates totally automatic and transparent to the users, ensuring the safety provided by the law. It is integrated into a service station which employs a set of alternative and renewable energy sources, connected to the grid of distribution / release of electrical energy available in the National Network. The innovative contribution of the system lies in the synergy of two activities: the automatic replacement of the battery pack and the charging of it through renewable energy sources. Thus the project is focussed on the development of the charging stations which, due to the particular way they are designed, provide an innovative service for replacing the battery pack and charging it through clean energy sources. To achieve this results two tasks must be accomplished: first the electric vehicle must be modified in order to allow the release of the battery pack in complete safety and autonomy. Second, a charging station to replace the battery pack, carry it inside a proper place and take the replacement battery to be inserted in the car must be developed. At the same time, the entire station should have the feature of modularity as we want it to be expandable, ensuring its growth in relation to the developments of the electric vehicles market. Finally the project could reciprocally stimulate the development of the electric vehicles market.
