Project

A.S.K. Health - Sistema avanzato per l’interpretazione e la condivisione della conoscenza in ambito sanitario.

Code PON01_00850
Field/s Health and wellbeing
Description The project is substantiated as the result of several converging lines of research aimed at developing a system to support complex organizations, based on a new representation of information assets. Research is to be carried out in the healthcare environment. The ultimate goal is: -a uniform and standard representation, and hence transferable, of the "knowledge" and "practice" of the organization; -a virtual integration of internal and external knowledge of the structure; -the possibility of analyzing the same information base on multiple levels (multidimensional); -the opportunity to combine traditional techniques and methods of information retrieval with paradigms emerging from WEB experience (ontological search engines and semantic analysis). So as to enable an integrated use of knowledge: -inside a structure which is not a homogeneous and standardized system; -in relation to other structures, with which to define systems of territorial value (regional, national and international); -in relation to active actors in the structure and their different roles and responsibilities such as doctors, nurses, administrative and management employees; -in relation to users, in this case citizens who during their lives interact with this part of the healthcare system. The need has surfaced to introduce substantial process innovation: -in the representation of each operational unit’s information resources where the ongoing relationship with the patient is most probable during a person’s health history, in other words outpatient clinics and hospital wards; -in the method used to record patient-centric events; -at times when a specific operational unit’s patient information database is affected by external events; -at times when the information database must be aggregated and processed to provide special views, or if you will, different dimensions of the same phenomenon. To obtain these objectives the project aims to establish: -a new system architecture, based on the organization and extraction of knowledge from heterogeneous environments; -new structures of data representation; -process interoperability through the application of ontological models; -visual interfaces (touch and multi touch) in the process of interaction with the system; -classes of multi-dimensional applications to replace existing and partial management systems. All expected solutions and products, related to the various levels of architecture, will contribute to the attainment of the following goals: -Representation of data with innovative models and information architectures; -Models and Systems for the organization, interpretation and extraction of knowledge from heterogeneous sources, to connect an organization’s "islands of knowledge"; -Integration of information components with the use of systems based on the concepts of Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) / EDA (Event Driven Architecture); -Introduction of User Interface Systems to guide staff in the process of human-machine interaction based on visual design environments and technologies of Language Processing; -New classes of management applications for the overall and integrated use of information assets for which are foreseen eight test beds in a hospital environment. All solutions, while using complex methods and technologies, will not be invasive to the organization or difficult to use, will be more connatural to the way of thinking and practice of healthcare personnel, will protect past investments and avoid costly interventions to adapt systems to mandatory interoperability requirements.
