Description	The aim of the project is the study and application of advanced and innovative technologies for the improvement of productive processes of pharmaceuticals active ingredients of industrial interest in the pharmacological field and the research for new molecules with potential pharmacological activity in the anti-infective field and more generally in cancer and chronic-degenerative diseases connected with ageing, with particular attention to inflammation role. The first research line of the project will study the possibility to expand activities allowing a careful investigation of most innovative aspects of microbiology and genetic technologies of producer strains, from genetic improvement to the study of fermentation process technologies and advanced technologies for the isolation and purification processes of active ingredients, for the improvement of competitivity. All these activities will be developed along with the appropriate analytical methodologies. The second research line will study the possibility to identify new products as candidates of potential pharmaceutical interest in the fields of anti-infectives and more generally in cancer and chronic-degenerative diseases connected with ageing, with particular attention to inflammation role. Such activities will be focused on the search for new substances having a pharmacologically interesting activity and could go from the screening of micro-organisms and aquatic organisms and characterization of their beneficial properties in the health care to the search for new derivatives from the family of anti-infectives today used through which it might be diversified and enlarged present sanofi-aventis Brindisi site productions. New semi-synthetic derivatives of known interesting molecules will be studied. These results might then allow the selection of promising new molecules for further development. New applications of known molecules might also be investigated. The project will eventually enhance the value of the research network for the discovery and development of new molecules with interesting pharmacological activities from natural products and ensure competitivity to Italian Sanofi-Aventis sites activities giving more value, reinforcing and integrating the investments made also with the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Research to the various research projects financed since 2000. This objective will be pursued through a strict collaboration among research centres of excellence both academic and private that, with their competences and assets, can effectively integrate innovation capacities of the company. The project will allow the maintenance of a high scientific and technological concentration of great innovative potential characterized by an organic collaboration between industrial and academic researchers.
