WaterGRID Project aims at developing, validating and demonstrating on the field a new model of water urban district metered network, allowing significant improvement in the rationalization of water resources, in the overall efficiency and in users’ safety and security.
Through the development of the WaterGRID Project, ARIN intends to consolidate the experience gained in the implementation and management of urban water networks, to develop and validate new processes and technologies, considered as mandatory to implement, on a large scale, the water district metered urban network model.
The Project has the following main scientific and technological objectives:
• To define and implement, on the existing GIS, a water district metered model of the water network, general purpose, even if applied to the Naples water network;
• To define, develop and validate an integrated node for the control of the water district, able to integrate water level measurements with the continuous monitoring of water physical and chemical parameters;
• To define, develop and validate an energy recovery system for water systems implementing effective strategies for energy saving and valorisation of green energy sources;
• To define, develop and validate a central management software, able to offer advanced functions for planning, control, monitoring and decision support for the management of the water district metered network;
• To develop an integrated technological demonstrator including the control centre with the innovative management software, one or more innovative control nodes in as many pilot district, one energy recovery system for a pilot district, a broad band data transmission network, optimized for demonstration purposes.
• To perform field testing through the developed demonstrator, recording improvement in the rationalization of water resources, in the network efficiency, in energy savings and in the capacity to prevent and react in case of safety and security risks.
