As evidenced in the report of the Milan’s Polytechnic (L’Enterprise 2.0 ai tempi della crisi: la concretezza di chi osa, Maggio 2009), the Enterprise 2.0 phenomenon is at a fork: if it will be faced in a superficial way it will become a transient trend if, instead, it will be deeply understood and faced in an proper and pragmatic way it can bring clear benefits and can be the basis of an organisational renewal allowing enterprises to be leader of the forthcoming economic grow cycle. It is widely recognised that the Enterprise 2.0 paradigm can bring process and technical innovation. Currently, anyway, this kind of innovation cab be considered as technology-driven, i.e. mainly driven by the adoption of social network (wiki, blog, forum), collaboration and communication tools inside the enterprise. In order to achieve the above-mentioned organisational renewal, it is mandatory the development of modelling and methodological innovation allowing enterprises to capitalise (in terms of processes costs and time reduction) their intangible values (such as ideas, experiences, knowledge, attitudes, skills) which, adopting the Enterprise 2.0 tools, are always more difficult to manage with traditional systems since they are embedded in the enterprise social networks. To this purpose, the project will define new methodologies, techniques and enabling technologies to manage knowledge and competencies distributed in the enterprises social networks. In particular i) to make explicit and annotate implicit knowledge in the form of best practices and lessons learned, ii) to allow their sharing inside and outside the enterprise boundaries, and to manage their lifecycle, iii) to allow enterprise competency management in social networks and expert finding, iv) to provide personal and adaptive learning paths for the personnel starting from organisational contents created as side effect of the collaboration inside social networks. The project will define also new models and methodologies to manage security, privacy and data, information and knowledge protection aligned with to the social paradigms behind the Enterprise 2.0. The project, furthermore, will properly integrate human factors such as: i) workers motivation for knowledge sharing and collaboration, defining new models and methodologies for social rewarding and reputation allowing the implementation of mechanisms and policies for personnel rewarding, ii) new technologies acceptance, making explicit the benefits (at all the levels: organisational, group, personal) for the workers. From the technological point of view, the goal can be summarised in the definition, design and development of prototypes to validate the research results. In particular, three prototypes are foreseen: to manage the lifecycle of best practices and lessons learnt, to create and deliver personalised training sessions, and to manage enterprise competencies and expert finding. Research results will be assessed in the context of Automotive scenarios based on concrete industrial needs and requirements of ELASIS. As above written, the distinctive aspect of the project results consists of the capability of managing and giving value to the intangible assets distributed inside the enterprises social networks which, currently, are not manageable with the traditional enterprise systems for knowledge and competency management In accordance with the Enterprise 2.0 paradigm, the research results will allow to renewal the enterprise organisation and processes by centring them not mainly on the new software tools but on the user-worker and on her/his value in terms of competencies, knowledge and know-how.
