Description The purpose of the Repair Laboratory (LABREP) project is the creation, throught a tight collaboration between the research and industrial sectors, of a national system of distinctive competencies devoted to the development of new technologies for aeronautic and aeroderivative components repair, with the main objective of researching, setting, evaluate and transfer the new technologies to the industrial field for the application to real components. The necessity for the creation of a national “repair laboratory” came from the increased need to find new advanced technologies for the repair of parts having very high unitary value, and made with complex materials and processes, with the guarantee of high quality level, high performances of the repaired component, reliability and safety, and to limit the dependence from proprietary technologies developed until now from the larger world aero-engine manufacturers. The repair laboratory, through a tight collaboration between the industrial and the scientific sectors, will have the main objective of researching, setting and evaluate a wide range of new technologies, using specifically the typical capability and flexibility of the University and research Centres, and to transfer the identified and tested technologies to the industrial world for the application to real components. The repair laboratory will be focalized on four main field of interest: 1) the development of new technologies for the dimensional restoration or local recovery of worn components, or for the replacement of corroded or damaged coatings after service; 2) the development of new joining technologies for the repair of cracks or for the replacement of local damaged areas; 3) the development of new environmentally friendly repair technologies for the removal of worn or in service damaged coatings, and for the deposition of new anti-wear and corrosive-resistant coatings, hexavalent-chromium free; 4) the development of new technologies for non destructive inspection, based on thermographic techniques, able to evaluate the damage level of parts coming from the service and the lack of defects on repaired components.
